You can help your Users find what they’re looking for by organizing your articles, posts and files using categories.
Items in the same category are displayed together on the Help Center. In this example, How to Articles, Instructional Videos and Manage your Account are all categories.
You can limit access to each category by usergroup - for example, you could set it so that only Users in VIP usergroup could see articles in the Instructional Videos category.
You can create one category inside another, giving you a nested category structure. This is useful to subdivide large categories.
You can have as many layers of nested categories as you want.
Adding a New Category
To create a new category head to Publish and click 'Add Category'.
Once you have some categories you will see a list including some level information (article counts and usergroup access):
To create a new category click on the + subcategory button in the top right:
Or you can create a new category when you're creating an article.
This will open up a Knowledgebase Category modal.
Name - The title the category will be referred to as through the interface.
Icon - The icon that will be displayed next to the category in the Help Center.
Usergroups - The usergroups you would like to give access to the category to. Read about Usergroups in this section.
Parent Category - Add as a child category of another category if required.
Editing and Deleting Categories
To edit an existing category, head back to the layout section and hover over the category you want to edit.
Click on the pencil that appears and this will open the category details in the application panel where they can be edited.
You'll see a delete button here as well which you can use to delete the category.
Reordering Categories and Articles
Again you can do this from the layout page in Publish > Content Type > Layout.
You'll notice each category has eight dots next to it on the far right:
You can simply click on these and drag and drop the categories into different positions to edit the order.
Similarly if you click into the category you can edit the order of the articles within in the same way:
Adding Items to Categories
When you open a Knowledgebase article, News post or File in the content panel, you can change its category using the category select above the editor:
A Knowledgebase article can belong to more than one category, but News posts and Files can’t.
