Database optimization

The OPC has a number of checks regarding database optimization.

Some changes will be made during the installation depending on server resources available. MySQL will set itself to use 25% of available RAM on the server.

The OPC decision page may show one of two pages for database optimization depending on how MySQL is being run

Internal

If you are using an internal MySQL database you have the option to apply the configuration changes with the OPC

Chosing Optimize will apply the configuration changes and restart the MySQL service

External

If you are using an external MySQL server the OPC cannot make the config changes itself. Instead it will display the recommended values based on the resource scan and advise adding them to the MySQL config file on the MySQL server.

Further improvements can be made to MySQL using 3rd party tools to analyze your MySQL configuration. If you suspect MySQL is running slowly, we would advise enabling slow logging to capture which queries are not running quickly. The logs can then be reviewed by either a dba or Deskpro support and we can look to advise on further changes where possible.
